Don't Waste Your Time...

ClipArt

Don't waste your time arguing with or listening to people who are argumentative by nature. Some people will "argue with a stop sign", that's what they use to say in the old days. Just ignore the noise and focus on other things that are more important. Let the small stuff go! There are many more urgent things going on that require more attention.
Let us take a look at John chapter nine. Here, Jesus heals a man who was blind at birth and the Pharisees were trying to find out every thing they could to find fault in the miraculous thing Jesus did for this man. First, the disciples asked Jesus, what sin did the man commit? John 9:1 - As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answers, 3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4 As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. The disciples were trying to figure out, what caused this man to be in this state? What sin could he have committed? Jesus redirected their attention on the God who can heal this man. The work that we must be about for our God is enormous.
Then, in verse 13, the Pharisees started to question this miraculous thing. 13 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” The Pharisees were so busy trying to discredit Jesus that their tunnel vision could only focus on the notion that this man could not be from God because he performed this miracle on the Sabbath day, which was against the law. They were totally oblivious or did not want to recognize the thing that they should have been focusing on, the fact that this man who had been blind since birth was now able to see. Wow! Isn’t that something to get excited about? Who would not want to give thanks for this man who had been disabled and by God’s works through Jesus Christ, he was freed from this disability. This is a reason to talk and shout about! Spread this news and see how much attention can be drawn to this Man.
In verse four, Jesus’ response to the disciples was ‘As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me.’ There are too many other imperative things that we can focus on, such as hunger, misguided people, distrust by those who are closest to us, envy, the sick and down trotted, the financial state of this nation, and right now the enormous gas prices we have to pay at the gas pumps and to heat our homes and dwellings. So, if there is anything that requires our attention right now, these would be at the top of the list.
So, the next time, you are faced with a situation where people are trying to distract you by twisting your words, saying things that are untrue, not speaking to you, or even bring you news that is not even worth a thought or two, just politely pull out your “Imperative List” and say, “Don’t waste my time with this, I have to divert my time to these items and be about the works that my God has sent me to do." Imperative means absolutely necessary or required. They many even want to join you, if not, stay focused and don’t waste your time with frivolous things when there are works that God wants you to do for the Kingdom. Ask yourself, what things will God be concerned with and do them!

  6. Nice post. Keep posting! God bless you sister! Been following your blog...

The Word of God commands us to "But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless."

A friend of mine, who has a different belief, tried to argue with me (even raised her voice) and imposed on me what she believes, making me feel I am wrong and she is right... I think (not being judgmental here) she has "spiritual superiority complex"... I did not argue with her but just said, "Okay if that's what you believe." I know that she is just a new convert and their pastor teaches a different doctrine so I can understand why she acted like that... maybe still overwhelmed... ^___^ and I WAS like that... :) so I can really understand her...

  7. @todrawneargod. You raise an excellent point about the "spiritual superiority complex", I like that phrase-:). Sometimes, it is wiser to keep your mouth close than to argue with foolishness. I don't mean to sound judgmental, like you stated, but really, the truth is the truth. Sometimes, we have to just close mouth or bridle the tongue because until that person is ready to see with open vision and open mindedness, their view is skewed! Thank God he found us one way, but we don't have to stay that way. It is a choice. So, we can lay it out there and let the Holy Spirit work on the other part. Thanks for your comments...many blessings to you!

Thank You!

Thank You DFA and Family   This serves as a “Thank You” to all of you who are reading this right now. Today is my last day at DFA. Although some of you were here when I came to DFA back in June of 2000, many have retired or moved on to various other assignments. Some have come after I started with DFA. I have had the opportunity over the last few weeks to execute a brief version of a succession plan. What usually takes years, I had to condense in a few weeks. However, I feel assured that the work of DFA will continue with excellence. I did not want any of you to worry about how you were getting paid, so I preferred to work until my last day and think of it as a “see you soon” rather than a "good bye". Good byes are not my forte, because they seem so final. So, I will see you soon. I will be rooting for you and know that DFA will succeed. The years and seasons have gone by so quickly. Time surely waits for no one. As a nation and state, we find ourselves still in the m

What profits a Person to Gain the Whole World?

What Profits a Person to Gain the Whole World and lose his/her soul? The soul is deemed integral or essential to consciousness and personality . As I contemplate on this thought, I have to take a look in the mirror at myself. With any evaluation made, one must first perform a self assessment , which equates to self-awareness . Knowing where you stand on a particular subject or how you feel about a particular topic, first requires some soul searching and getting to know SELF . So, I ponder and pray sometimes about the direction God wants me to take; about the decisions God wants me to make; about the work God wants me to do; about the associations God wants me involved in; about the influences God wants me to have on others; about the thoughts God wants me to write; and about the people God wants me to touch; then I pick up my Bible to read and He reveals some of these things that I ponder over. Oftentimes, I may not know where to start, but He leads me to where he wants me to g

Hold Tight

While driving along the highway in the mist of a wind storm or heavy thunderstorm, the first thought may be to pull over along the side of the road and wait for the conditions to become more favorable for driving. With the wind gusts blowing the car from left to right or the heavy raindrops pounding against the windshields, visibility decreases; likewise, the desire to hold the steering wheel a little tighter increases as the gusts carry the car along the road. What is the consequence of pulling over and waiting this thing out? In the mist of adversity, there is a covering that is extended to the chosen. In Psalm 91: 5-8, the Psalmist writes about the protection against the adversary. Those that come up against you will not prevail. They will fall to either side, but not come near. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side,
